MMA Analytics Column @ 411Mania.com

by LR 3/3/2008 3:55:00 AM

It's Monday morning, and that means it's time for my Monday column at 411Mania.com known as MMA Analytics. The column features a recap of this weekend's action at UFC 82 and includes some analysis as to what's next in the Middleweight division as well as some insight into the other matchups during the event:

UFC 82 didn't disappoint. It provided us with one of the most shocking main events of the year in Anderson Silva dominating Dan Henderson. Although Henderson was stylistically the best matchup for Silva, Silva proved that he deserves to be labeled the best pound for pound fighter in the world. We'll look at that matchup and more in this edition of MMA Analytics.

Monday Column: EliteXC Recap and Analysis @ 411Mania.com

by LR 2/18/2008 3:38:00 AM

A great weekend for predicting fights for us at MMA-Analyst.com. I only lost one prediction, and Brett Rogers took me to the promise land on the wager's game. My column over at 411Mania.com this week focuses on this weekend's action at EliteXC: Street Certified in Miami, Florida. Check it out:

Kimbo didn't add anything to his legacy as a brawler, but he crushed Tank Abbott easily for a win at Street Certified on Saturday. We'll look at his win and the rest of the card in this edition of MMA Analytics.

EliteXC: Street Certified gave us the weekend mixed martial arts fix that many fans needed. The event did produce one of the largest gates for EliteXC, and it looked to solidify EliteXC's presence in the Miami market. It provided some fantastic knockouts and great matchups, but it ultimately proved little as far as the potential of some of the better fighters within the promotion. Kimbo Slice continued his smart upbringing into MMA with a win over Tank Abbott. Antonio Silva narrowly defeated Ricco Rodriguez and showed some weaknesses in his game that lead many to believing he may not be all that he's cracked up to be. Let's dig deeper into both of those matchups and the rest of the card.

Monday Column: MMA Analytics @ 411Mania.com

by LR 2/11/2008 5:44:00 AM

Check out another edition of MMA Analytics over at 411Mania.com, my weekly column featuring in-depth looks at current issues in the sport of mixed martial arts.

Sylvia's recent comments regarding his potential departure from the UFC have sparked the thoughts of many fans into believing that we may be seeing an exodus. Is the UFC's treatment of fighters to blame, or is their big paydays to the fighters who can draw buys hurting their chances at keeping the elite? We'll look at the situation and more in this edition of MMA Analytics.

Much of the article talks about the possibility of another organization putting together a heavyweight division that could rival that of the UFC. It's entirely possible, and the ball is in UFC's court as to how they want to handle some of these higher profile fighters leaving the organization.

MMA Analytics Monday: UFC 81 Analysis

by LR 2/3/2008 6:38:00 PM

My Monday column over at 411mania.com features an analytical piece on UFC 81, breaking down the two main events and some talk about the preliminary bouts. Check it out, here's the excerpt:

Timex should sponsor Nogueira because he keeps taking a beating and keeps on ticking. "Minotauro" Nogueira managed to survive once again, and then tap out a much bigger opponent in Tim Sylvia by using some slick ground skills. It was vintage Nogueira at its finest. Frank Mir showed us that jiu-jitsu is still king of the hill when it comes to technique vs. strength. We'll look over UFC 81's matchups and more in this edition of MMA Analytics.

411: MMA Analytics Monday Column: Welterweight Division in Danger

by LR 1/13/2008 6:25:00 PM

Here's the entry at 411Mania.com for my column, MMA Analytics, for the week of the 14th. The article revolves around the notion that the Welterweight division is in danger of having the same fate that the Middleweight division has been having... a dominant champion that nobody can touch. Fortunately for the UFC, Henderson stepped down to take on Silva. Is there relief for the Welterweights? Find out in this article:

With Georges St. Pierre's recent win over Matt Hughes, it seems that Pierre has become a dominant opponent for nearly everyone in the Welterweight division. This poses problems of who will be able to matchup against Pierre in the future, much like the situation with Anderson Silva at Middleweight. We'll look at the current situation in the Welterweight division, comparisons to the Middleweights, and fixes that the UFC can implement to reclaim a challenging upper tier of matchups for the division. All of that and more in this edition of MMA Analytics.
